This explains why Bumble has a bit of similarity with Tinder by letting users swipe right when they like someone. Bumble lets women take control by being the ones who have to make the first move. They have to do so in 24 hours, though. Otherwise, the match disappears and you spend your entire life wondering what could have been if you just had the courage to chat up that hottie.
This app relies on the premise that two people who have the same idea of what a perfect first date would be like would hit it off on their first date. HowAboutWe works by letting you broadcast a suggestion for a date and have other people contact you when they are intrigued. It's a free download but members will have to pay if they want to receive messages from other members.
If you don't want to sift through tons of profiles to meet a date, Coffee Meets Bagel will do it for you. Every day at noontime, this app will match you up with one person that you can either like or pass and who shares at least one mutual friend on Facebook. Over time, the app learns what type of people you'd like to meet and will be able to show you better matches. Plus, the existence of a mutual friend makes it a bit safer than having to meet up with random people you meet on the Internet. The differences between OkCupid and Grindr as far as matches are night and day.

Happn is a novel concept that works for some — one friend met their boyfriend of seven months via the app — but it wasn't for me. The closest I ever got to a date was when Brian, a handsome, twenty-something public relations guy started chatting with me. Then he pitched me on a Twitter-related story — smooches emoji and all.
Brian apologized hours later, but only after I blasted the move on social media. But does it really matter whether you've crossed paths with someone three times or 33 times? Happn has a novel hook, but it's too early to tell whether it has long-term potential. If OkCupid emphasizes quantity, Coffee Meets Bagel and Once take the opposite approach, serving up one match a day — the hope being that one daily match warrants serious consideration.
In Coffee Meets Bagel's case, the app factors in your social media connections, location and several basic preferences. It also employs a virtual currency called "beans," which can be used for certain features like the ability to resend your profile to someone you might particularly like. If you and a match end up liking each another, the app creates a message thread inside the app that automatically closes after eight days. Once also has you fill out some basic information for a short profile, including gender, location, sexual orientation, ethnicity, as well as several lines about yourself.
Every day, a virtual timer onscreen counts down to the moment when you receive your next match. Although I have several straight friends who met their significant others on Coffee Meets Bagel, it's relatively slim pickings on my end. A slightly braver step in the world of passive rejection. Because, yet again, no dating app can be described without the infamous T word.
Now is it me, or does this name sound a bit dodgy? The app links to Facebook, and shows you pictures of people who are nearby, or who you have mutual friends with.
