I personally do not see the need for this change. This tank is not only an icon in the french light tank tech tree but there are entire clans build around this tank and nerfing it would just be an enormous blow to elc lovers me included. Once again, wargaming is """"fixing"""" something that isn't broken and nobody was complaining about.
If they really feel the need to balance this tank, please just put it a tier higher, but don't nerf it. It's a tier 5 tank which currently does not meet tier 3 tanks but will do after the patch. That is why it is getting adjusted.

Personally I think it would be better buffed and put in at tier 7 or 8. Remove it then bring it back as a premium. And if you think they are sneaking it in or are not getting any complaints then you have not been paying attention. Initially it was also losing the 90mm gun as well. Fully functioning turret seems A chaffee will kill an elc every time, over and over and over and over again.

To be honest the old PZ IV was kiiiiiiiiinda op if you look at the stats, I played it back in the day but was too noob to realize how strong it rlly was. Also your idea of upping it a few tiers, I kinda like it. I remember fighting tier 9's in my elc with the old, old matchmaking. Just give it pen a bit more horsepower and hp and it's good to go in my opinion. I second the motion to remove it altogether and bring it back as a tier 6 premium tank with its current stats. And I say that as someone who has a liking for his ELC to an almost unhealthy degree.

So arguably you could say that the HP one is fine. As on tier 5, sub HP tanks are all TD's. And this is more or less a TD with the 90mm gun anyway. And if you got hit, you were highly screwed almost regardless, Just like the Stug with it's HP.

So most for their style of play won't notice it. So IMO it's fine, but still the one is preferable. I suspect you are reffering to DPM.
Rule #2: Create First-Shot Opportunities
Yes with my crew and setup I will have a 1. But again for the way most play it, you won't notice it much. Most do a drive by or fire and fall back anyway and use longer then 11 sec to get back to aim. Do you really need pen or gold pen to kill tier 3 tanks? O-I Exp has to work with Most tier 5 mediums have to work with give or take. So I suspect for most targets. That will still be more then enough. As on test, I had no issues with that pen even vs tier 7 targets. This was a tank that was balanced to fight vs tier X targets at first.
Do you really think that the same balance will work vs tier 3? That camo, mobility, pen and DPM would just rape anything as top tier. It needed a little smack as it was not moved up a tier. If it was bumped to tier 6. But at tier 5 still? And IMO on test it was still fun. I could still do the same things, still be sneaky as all heck, and still punish and smack anything that did dare to go into the open.
Gun handling is better on the move now vs before. But the loss of the top speed and power to weight?

I recently bought the coated optics, but I do have some gold to demount if necessary. Thanks, and great post! I listed the recommend equipment in the guide — no other setup makes sense based on the mechanics of the tank.
I noticed that your very good article does not have anything on: Elc vs Elc duels. This guy is absolutely insane, and destroys even in T8 battles. It seems pretty meh without crew skills or anything. Situational awareness then recon. It seems to me, this tank already has excellent camo rating, so crew skill camo seems like it would be unnecessary. While I understand, the preferred playstyle is finding a concealment spot, sometimes you have to move and advance and it seems to me that the extended view range would be helpful.
Camo skills so significantly improve your chances of not being spotted that they are well worth it.
Camo skills on your crew will almost double your camo rating, which is awesome: For any light tank and non-brawling TDs , you want to prioritize not getting spotted over spotting. Sixth Sense and Camo should be your 1st two Commander skills. The challenge for the ELC is two-fold: The bottom line is that the base vision for the ELC is low, and increasing a small number by a small number yields low benefit. Terrific, thanks for your reply.
So, with the new changes to ELC, do you still recommend the above setups? I have always kept a camo net and vents on mine rather than the rammer, and continue to, since I generally find myself passive spotting, and the weaker speed keeps me from displacing as effectively when spotted. The only things that have meaningfully changed: I have achieved two marks of excellence so far using my current setup, and your results seem better, but it could be that I simply have less practice.
I really like being able to watch enemy tanks drive by me in my bush with camo net up, then spot even the camo TDs out to the max range. I typically have poor spotting damage scores, even with all the pluses. I will definitely keep the binos. My concern is over giving up my camo net and vents for a GLD and rammer, especially with the nerf to fire rate.
Right now I play a role similar to an infantry sniper.

I find an excellent spotting position if I can, and use the big gun to one-shot vulnerable enemies, especially heavies who have pulled back due to low hp, usually right into my crosshairs.
