Male and Female The Curse of the Cat People What Do Men Want? Frank Glendon, George Hackathorne. Buster Keaton, Edward F. The Hand That Rocks the Cradle There are more important attributes than intelligence in seeking a spouse. All the same, it doesn't do any harm. All it will cost you is all of your money: If a woman or man for that matter sees wealth as a positive attribute why should anyone complain, wealth can be seen as a measure of success cant it, and lets be honest the basic reason for getting involved is pro-creation, so, seeing someone as successful is a legitimate factor in attractiveness, and ultimately a trait we might want in our offspring.

Apparently, on dating websites good grammar is highly rated by women, which can be seen as an outcome of a 'good education' or simply intelligence. My strategy is don't knock it when it comes knocking whatever the reason. I agree completely bobtonnor. There was quite a lot of consternation on the curious party scene some years ago at the partner choice of a friend.

This friend is a homely looking man who comes from a moderately wealthy family and earns a very good income. The consternation came from a concern that this woman was only interested in our friend because of his money, but then we came to the response that he would probably not have been as interested in her if it weren't for her looks.

That seemed to cancel that concern out. I guess that means our differences men and women can't really be as much as we think? The sort of men that about "radical feminism" are the reason WHY there are so many single mothers. Because the presence of single mothers wouldn't have anything to do with the actions of women, would it, David. Is that white steed yours or are you renting? Can't have a nice witty article about social behaviour and gender in relationships from a female writer without a comment like a social conservative men's group anti-feminist whinge.

Seriously, some people need to spend more time actually addressing the issues men deal with in society rather than advertising them on comment boards as some sort of counter argument for male victimhood to an article written by a women. Years ago I was in the officers mess with 2 friends. One was a female officer from the Medical Corps and the other a male officer from Artillery. We were discussing the problems of finding a partner in life. The conversation has stuck with me all my life and still makes me smile when I think of it.

My female friend had just said that she wanted meet a potential partner she could admire, who had more life experience, more income, more assets, a higher status job and was good looking.

It turns out that size does matter - in the brain

To which my colleague from artillery replied. You are being delusional! You are a major who has seen active service, been around the world, is on good pay, has their own home and has a high status position- if you ever did meet some guy who has had more life experience, had more income, had more assets, had a higher status job and was good looking- He would not be looking for you! He would be looking for a 19 year old bimbo with big tits! I've always been curious about women who wanted a partner they could "look up to". Does this imply they want their partner to be able to "look down on them"?

It kind of makes sense though if someone has had to be in such a position of dominance in their professional life they might be looking for a relationship in which they don't have to take on the responsibility of being the dominant one in their private life. Sort of like how many of the clients of professional dominatrixes tend to be high powered corporate types. I've heard that said before but I'm yet to be convinced of causality.

Not claiming to be an expert, but a dominatrix strikes me pun intended as being towards the expensive end of the sex worker spectrum. Maybe high-powered corporate types are the only men who can afford them? Steve, you are so right. I am fairly bright -joined Mensa aged 18 looking for a bright bloke.

9 Types Of Girls That Guys Are Afraid To Date - Narcity

After my marriage broke up, I had no problem about finding guys. I think that 'intelligent, educated etc' was the equivalent for some men as 'trophy bride' is for other men. Finding a high achieving intelligent guy was a lot harder. Alpha males have the pick of the bunch, and they weren't picking me. They actually genuinely needed a social secretary, irrespective of mammary equipment. I finally found a great husband, very intelligent, not all that good looking, and we are very happy. Mind you, he does have his shortcomings, but then so do I.

Surely physical attraction is important when people first come together, but if you are looking for a long term relationship your intellects need to be compatible.

It does not matter who is smarter as long as you are both comfortable with the other party. When I reflect on my own marriage of about 45 years, I was perhaps more academically inclined while my husband was a tradesman. That did not make either of us smarter than the other, we were just individually better at some things than others.

If your life becomes a continual competition about who is smarter then you would be better off entering a television quiz show. After 47 years of wedded bliss, I have no idea but I brought the office down when I said staying in the closet never hurt me. And she didn't marry me for my looks or money, as I had neither. But I have noticed that men age better! Rather, we are less demanding that older men look good. But more demanding about their assets, their legacy, their work ethic, and the expectation that they will fold to pseudofeminist entitlement.

One out of four ain't bad, David. You'd think it would make evolutionary sense to have a partner who is as smart as possible. But it might be uncomfortable living with someone who you know is much more or less intelligent than you are. So the experiment should investigate which men are most attracted to the smartest women - would it be the smartest men, and vice versa? Or perhaps we seek out partners who are like ourselves, or like our parents?

Like most questions of evolutionary biology, the answers are likely to be a complex balance of competing forces. The problem with evolution is you can work backwards from any outcome and find evolutionary reasons why that has occurred.

So yeah, kind of like what you said. An intelligent partner is more likely to be discerning about mating choices. It doesn't necessarily make evolutionary sense to be attracted to intelligence. Besides, who is the better catch? A caveman hunter or a caveman philosopher? The 'Love of Learning Award' must be the consolation prize they give to people who fail science and English language comprehension.
