Seriously, some people need to spend more time actually addressing the issues men deal with in society rather than advertising them on comment boards as some sort of counter argument for male victimhood to an article written by a women. Years ago I was in the officers mess with 2 friends. One was a female officer from the Medical Corps and the other a male officer from Artillery. We were discussing the problems of finding a partner in life. The conversation has stuck with me all my life and still makes me smile when I think of it.
My female friend had just said that she wanted meet a potential partner she could admire, who had more life experience, more income, more assets, a higher status job and was good looking.

He would be looking for a 19 year old bimbo with big tits! I've always been curious about women who wanted a partner they could "look up to". It kind of makes sense though if someone has had to be in such a position of dominance in their professional life they might be looking for a relationship in which they don't have to take on the responsibility of being the dominant one in their private life. After my marriage broke up, I had no problem about finding guys. I think that 'intelligent, educated etc' was the equivalent for some men as 'trophy bride' is for other men. Finding a high achieving intelligent guy was a lot harder. Alpha males have the pick of the bunch, and they weren't picking me. They actually genuinely needed a social secretary, irrespective of mammary equipment. I finally found a great husband, very intelligent, not all that good looking, and we are very happy. Mind you, he does have his shortcomings, but then so do I.
Surely physical attraction is important when people first come together, but if you are looking for a long term relationship your intellects need to be compatible.

It does not matter who is smarter as long as you are both comfortable with the other party. When I reflect on my own marriage of about 45 years, I was perhaps more academically inclined while my husband was a tradesman. That did not make either of us smarter than the other, we were just individually better at some things than others.
If your life becomes a continual competition about who is smarter then you would be better off entering a television quiz show. After 47 years of wedded bliss, I have no idea but I brought the office down when I said staying in the closet never hurt me. And she didn't marry me for my looks or money, as I had neither. But I have noticed that men age better! Rather, we are less demanding that older men look good. But more demanding about their assets, their legacy, their work ethic, and the expectation that they will fold to pseudofeminist entitlement.
One out of four ain't bad, David. You'd think it would make evolutionary sense to have a partner who is as smart as possible. But it might be uncomfortable living with someone who you know is much more or less intelligent than you are. So the experiment should investigate which men are most attracted to the smartest women - would it be the smartest men, and vice versa? Or perhaps we seek out partners who are like ourselves, or like our parents?

So yeah, kind of like what you said. An intelligent partner is more likely to be discerning about mating choices. It doesn't necessarily make evolutionary sense to be attracted to intelligence.
