YES--this is the one!!!! After buying one of those supposedly highly rated stainless steel braided ice connector hoses on Amazon, I was dealing with disgustingly tainted stale rubber hose taste in my water and ice, even after the water has gone through the filter in my new Samsung fridge. I thought this would be a temporary issue and figured the taste will go away after 2 weeks of usage, but unfortunately, that was not the case. Then I scoured through Amazon to find a replacement and I find several excellent review for the Whirlpool Pex hose.

The majority of the good reviews says this connector does not impart a foul taste to the water. Low and behold--the reviews are correct. I would skip the hassles of buying the stainless steel braided ones and just get this hose. Your tastebuds will thank you for it. Received this hose early and it was packaged perfectly. Fittings attached without any problems at all. Make sure you follow instructions for installation since it looks fragile if over tightened. I also premeasured hose and used tape to fix length before installing. So no crimps or like that at all. Also I did a quick flush in the sink before attaching.
Had no taste of plastic at all. I highly recommend this item and would purchase again without hesitation.

And noteworthy is that it takes up to 24 hours for your ice maker to get water flow and make ice. After installing my ice maker did not get water immediately. So I unattached hose and tested it for flow all to no avail. Then got out the frig owners manual. Well that is where I got the 24 hour information.

So save yourself a little extra work and stress. Check manual also LOL. Wish I had done that myself. This line was easy to cut and provides an easy to install firm grip - it has reminders on tags and the manual saying to hand-tighten then give one turn with a wrench. One person found this helpful. Works well and easy to install, used to connect water supply to my refrigerator. I bought this to replace a polyethylene line that I bought from the hardware store that developed a pinhole leak in the MIDDLE of the line after 4 years of use. I caught it before any major water damage was done but still managed to warp my floor boards under the refrigerator.
Hopefully the Pex will be more durable and last longer. My new house has high-water pressure so the previous hose was showing signs of failure when it started to leak. One size of the hose was almost twice the side of the other.

I went with the PEX replacement hose because I know that is the same tubing that is in the walls and has a very high operating pressure so I don't have to worry about this line bursting in the future. I damaged my old ice maker hose on my LG side by side and bought a stainless steel braided one to replace it with. The taste of the water was horrible even after flushing it substantially more than the manufacturer recommended. I finally had enough and bought this. It looks to be good quality, was easy to install and best of all it imparts no taste on the water.
After months of being told by two plumbers that my newly installed refrigerator water line needed to have the water run through the system to eliminate the plastic taste; which I did with no success. The instant we installed the Whirlpool hook up kit and I ran maybe a half gallon of water through the new line, the water was fresh and clear of any artificial taste.
I would recommend this product to anyone who has trouble with their water system. I couldn't tell if it was supposed to be this way, or if some 3rd party amazon seller mishandled the item. Despite the kinks I get great water flow through it and I didn't want to mess around with returning it, thinking I'd likely get another one in the same condition. I was going to buy that, then happened to look on amazon just for giggles and found this guy. This is one high quality hose. Since this is something that will be sitting behind the fridge where I'm likely to never see it again , and contorted into lord-knows what shape when the fridge gets pushed back against the wall, I decided it was worth a little premium for the peace of mind.
The other thing we did was get a regular plumbing fitting to connect the hose to the house pipe - a lot of what's available is called "self-tapping kits", but the refrigerator manual specifically recommends against that. IMHO a lot of people who experience leaks with the fridge probably went with a self-tapping connection and a cheap hose.
About a month ago I experienced something I had never encountered in my many decades. I was going into my guest bedroom which my grandson uses when he comes over, and the carpet was wet. This was more than a spilt glass of water. Turns out that the leak was from the hose for the ice cube maker, and because of the tile floor in the kitchen opposite side of the same wall as bedroom the water had soaked into the drywall and run into the bedroom instead of the kitchen.

When I pulled out the refrigerator there was no gushing or spraying of water, so I have no idea how long this went on. The cheap plastic hose had lasted for 13 years, but I don't want a repeat. The reviews, and the quality of this new hose seems like it should last a lifetime. It seems every refrigerator manual still recommends using copper tubing to hook up a water source.
Bought this as part of an installation for the icemaker on a refrigerator for the section between the water tap and the filter. If this item was out where I could see it I would have opted for something with a white braid, but this was the right price for this job. A leak is expensive! I have only had it installed a couple of months but the quality helps set my mind at ease regarding another catastrophe. I have learned that these are supposed to be replaced every 10 years.
