Yea I noticed the schools are not the best. We'll just have to do some additional educating at home to compensate for anything we think they're not learning. Elementary schools in ardsley park are rated high.
Islands schools and Richmond hill are also supposedly quite good. I don't have children so this is entirely based on what I've overheard and read in passing.

Moved here from up north, I'm also in an interracial couple and was worried. We have not experienced any racism but I would be careful of what school your kids go to. I wouldn't be worried about physical danger, but some of the low income urban Savannah neighborhoods have terrible schools. Just be sure to look up the ratings greatschools.

If you're coming from Chicago you've probably seen worse but I would do some research. Moving into an area with a decent school is going to be the hardest thing you do here. If you decide to move into Savannah "proper" immediately put your kid into the lottery to get into Garrison Elementary, Charles Ellis, or Jacob G Smith. Those are lottery based lower schools which are good schools.
Hey, born and raised in Chicago! I grew up on the north side go Cubs! Also in an interracial relationship and living in Savannah so There was one incident of violence against an interracial couple years ago, but that was more of a singular event. So long as you're street smart, you'll be fine. We've lived in Lisle and Aurora the last 2 years. I said Chicago because to most people IL is Chicago.

As a fellow outsider here in Savannah I haven't really noticed it being too bad here as far as racism goes.
